Scholastic Achievement Awards
The Marlborough Legion Post197 is pleased to announce
the names of the Elmer Thienes-Mary Hall Elementary
School students chosen to receive awards for their
Scholastic achievement and Citizenship. The sixth graders
going on to RHAM Middle School are: Nicole Sanclemente and Patrick Catenzaro.
Annually the Marlborough Post #197 provides the awards
to acknowledge the traits of courage, honor, leadership,
patriotism, scholarship and service in our youth as
determined by their teachers. Cmdr. Bernard Hoyland
made the presentation to Nicole and Patrick
at a school recognition ceremony 5/28/2009, stating
"it is the intent of the American Legion
to proclaim and reward the traits of character we
feel will develop good citizenship and 100% Americanism".
Congratulations to Nicole and Patrick!

Post 197 awarded Boys' State Plaque
The Post was awarded the John S. Babes Plaque
for sponsoring Boys' State participant Chris Langlois.
Chris was selected Governor of this year's Boys' State.
Congratulations to Chris! The Plaque is on display at
the Post.
Scholarship Awarded
The Auxiliary is pleased to announce that Adrienne Matunas has been selected to receive this year's American
Legion Auxiliary (Unit 197) Memorial Scholarship.
Congratulations to Adrienne! She will be attending
Middlebury College in Vermont.


Boy's State:
Post #197 sent two boys to Boy's State at Eastern Conn. State University in Willimantic, June 24 thru June 29, 2008.
The RHAM students selected to attend were Micheal Kearns, son of Tim & Sue Kearns, 41 chapman Rd , Marlborough and Michael Bradley, son of James & Natalie Bradley, 3 Kristi Lane, Marlborough.
Eastern Hosts American Legion Boys State for 20th Year in a Row.
Eastern hosted nearly 300 Connecticut high school juniors during the 66th American Legion Boys State, held from June 24-29. Participants set up mock town, city, county and state elections; engaged in role-playing; and debated and enacted legislation. The keynote address was delivered by former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons. The students also heard Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal; Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz; and Superior Court Judge Susan Peck speak.
